Pony rides are back this month on Nov 15 & 22 from 10am – 1pm. And every Saturday there is face painting and crafts for the kids to do at several vendor booths.

Farmers markets are an important part of the city to farm connection and have continued to rise in popularity. More and more consumers have an  interest in obtaining fresh products directly from the farm. Farmers markets allow consumers to have access to locally grown, farm fresh produce. The farmers also have an opportunity to develop a personal relationship with their customers, and cultivate consumer loyalty with the farmers who grows the produce. Direct marketing of  farm products through farmers markets continues to be a very important sales outlet for agricultural producers nationwide. Today, there are more than 4,300 farmers markets operating throughout the nation and many of them in right here in Louisiana

Consumers spend an estimated $1 billion per year at farmers markets, estimates The United States Department of Agriculture.

In October 2007, the USDA released $900,000 to several states to be used to start farmers markets, or promote and expand established markets. Twenty-three grants total, this was the second time in as many years the federal government earmarked money for such projects, under the USDA’s Farmers Market Promotion Program.
